Cookie Monster variations of traditional games like are easy to play and require very little in the way of set up or planning.
Pin the Cookie in Cookie Monster’s Mouth
Find a Cookie Monster shirt with his mouth wide-open. Give each child a paper cookie, spin the child around 3 times, and see if he or she can pin (tape) the cookie to Cookie’s mouth.
Capture the Sesame Street Characters
Have you ever played Capture the Flag? Well, this is a version of the same game, with a Sesame Street theme, of course. Create two teams and two play areas (e.g. two different rooms of the house, two opposite sides of the yard). Give each team a set of sesame street cake topper characters (4) to hide in their play area. When all characters are hidden, teams switch play areas and see how quickly they can find all 4 characters. Which team will capture all the characters first! If the game was too short play it again!
Dunk the Cookie
For this game, you will need several plastic lids (e.g., from sour cream, butter, yogurt, or other plastic containers) and a hula hoop. Paint the lids, or cover them with brown construction paper and add a few hand-drawn chips to make the cookies. Cut a large round sheet of white paper (or poster board) and tape it to the hula hoop to serve as the giant glass of milk. From several feet away or from equal distances all around the hula hoop, show children how to toss their “cookies” and try to “dunk” them in the glass of milk. Who will get the cookie in the milk? *Be sure to have at least 2 cookies for each guest, or reuse the cookies so that each guest has several turns at the game.
